The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., a financial institution, provides a range of financial services for corporations, financial institutions, governments, and individuals globally.

Goldman Sachs reported second quarter results before the open on Tuesday 14 July. Diluted earnings per share of $20.98 came in about 45 percent ahead of the roughly $14.40 consensus and 92 percent higher year on year, a quarterly record. Revenue rose 39 percent to $20.3 billion against estimates near $16.3 billion, also a record. Net earnings were $6.63 billion and annualised return on equity reached 23.5 percent.

Metric  Actual  Consensus
Revenue  $20.3bn  ~$16.3bn
EPS (GAAP)  $20.98  ~$14.40

Trading and dealmaking both fired. Equities produced record net revenues of $7.4 billion, with equity financing up 91 percent. Fixed income, currencies and commodities rose 32 percent to $4.6 billion. Investment banking fees climbed 55 percent to $3.4 billion on record debt underwriting, and the advisory backlog reached a five-year high. Global Banking and Markets, the division housing all of the above, posted a record $15.5 billion, up 53 percent. Asset and wealth management ended the quarter with a record $4.04 trillion under supervision after $91 billion of long-term net inflows.

Goldman gives no formal guidance. The board raised the dividend 25 percent to $5.00 per share. CEO David Solomon attributed the quarter to strong client activity, an acceleration in strategic dealmaking, and demand tied to AI infrastructure investment, and noted the backlog rose even after a record quarter of fees.

The stock rose 9 percent on the day and closed at a record $1,152.07 the following session. Several banks beat estimates this month and watched their shares fall anyway; a 45 percent EPS beat proved sufficient to avoid that outcome.
